Art Created By Foster Children Travels Throughout the Region

Art is great. Kid’s art is even better. For the therapeutic foster children and youth of Omni Visions Inc., art is used to express hopes and dreams as well as a way to process the sadness or fear caused by the overwhelming circumstances many of these children have already faced in their young lives.  The display, “Every Child Has A Story,” was created to celebrate the lives of the foster children that Omni is currently serving as well as to highlight to the region, the need for many more families in our communities to step up and be willing to open their home and their heart to a child or youth in need of care. The display ranges from art created by a sibling group of young children that have more recently come into care as well as pieces from long-term youth who have successfully been adopted in permanent homes. The subject matter of some the colorful pieces show, for example, a happy house with smiling people out front, another is a celebration of Hispanic heritage, and then a more deeply reflective piece  presents a figure in water reaching out for a life preserver.   Omni Visions Inc. is a therapeutic foster care agency with a regional office located in Jonesborough, TN. The agency serves eight counties of Northeast TN and is moving the art display throughout the region over the months to come.  The display started out at Hands On! Regional Museum in Johnson City for the months of September and October and is currently located at the Sullivan Co. Library in Blountville through the end of November. You will be able to find it at the VO Dobbins Community Center in Kingsport for the months of December and January.  Omni Visions has been connecting foster kids to families for 20 years and they provide excellent support, a generous monthly stipend, and on-going training.
